Racing aficionados can expect a swift start to the 2024 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, according to the NSW Bureau of Meteorology’s latest forecast.
Senior Meteorologist Gabrielle Woodhouse predicts a vigorous start with strengthening north-easterly winds, potentially reaching gale force speeds along the southern New South Wales coast on Thursday.
However, woodhouse also forecasts a brisk south-westerly change, pushing across Bass Strait and turning more southerly on the New South wales coast by Friday morning.
“The exact time is still yet to be determined, but the model consistency at the moment is pretty remarkable,” Woodhouse saeid. “Noting that it’s still a few days away,as we see that change come through,we could be seeing some showers, and maybe even the chance of a thunderstorm.”
Cruising yacht Club of Australia Commodore Sam Haynes anticipates a fast race, though he doesn’t predict any record-breaking times. Haynes, participating in the race aboard the Volvo Open 70, Celestial V70, believes his boat has the potential to perform well.
” “
With the race forecast looking favorable, skippers are expressing optimism and outlining their strategies for the upcoming competition.
one skipper, confident in his boat’s capabilities, believes the challenging conditions will play to their advantage. “It’s designed for hard reaching,” he shared, “and just getting through the front safely is going to be the key part of the race.”
Carl Crafoord of Wild Thing 100 expressed excitement for the initial phase of the race, praising the clear forecast for the first 12 hours. He anticipates a challenge in navigating further down the coast due to the predicted southwesterly winds. “I think the tricky bit will be getting further down the coast,” Crafoord noted. He added that their progress would hinge on the wind direction and how far offshore they could sail.
“so, we beleive that we can get a little bit further out and try and use the two boats ahead of us as flags to determine how close we can get back into Tassie,” said Crafoord, highlighting their strategy for navigating the tricky conditions.
James Mayo, co-skipper of Master Lock Comanche, welcomed the forecast, deeming it preferable to the choice of facing a southerly wind. He emphasized the importance of safety and a well-executed strategy.
“It’s about keeping the boat in one piece, you know, there’s going to be some good rides – and getting there safely – and working through those transitions as we enter Bass Strait and getting through those best as possible.”
Christian Beck of LawConnect, whose crew has sailed together for six years, embraced the challenging forecast.”I think from our point of view, the harder it is indeed, the better it is,” Beck stated.”We hope our crew is our main strength. The harder it is, the more that comes to our advantage. So, we’re pretty happy with the forecast overall.”
Static HTML vs. WordPress: Which Reigns Supreme for SEO?
Choosing the right platform for your website can feel like navigating a maze. For those prioritizing organic search engine optimization (SEO), the debate often boils down to static HTML websites versus dynamic platforms like WordPress. A recent discussion on Reddit [[1](https://www.reddit.com/r/SEO/comments/164n64h/is_a_static_html_website_better_than_wordpress_or/)]explored this very topic, highlighting the pros and cons of each approach. Proponents of static HTML argue that its lightweight structure and simplified code can lead to faster loading times, a crucial factor in Google’s ranking algorithms. They also point to the increased control over code and potential for better optimization. Though, WordPress advocates emphasize the platform’s inherent SEO-friendliness.With plugins designed specifically for optimization,built-in features for content organization, and a vast community providing support and resources,WordPress makes it easier for users to implement best SEO practices. Ultimately, the best choice depends on various factors, including technical expertise, content needs, and long-term goals. While static HTML offers simplicity and potential speed advantages,WordPress provides a complete ecosystem for managing and optimizing content effectively.## Archyde: Bracing for a Fast and Furious Start – Interview with Carl Crafoord
