FASFC recalls gluten-free chocolate chip cookies

The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (AFSCA) recalls gluten-free “Céréal” biscuits with chocolate chips because of an excessively high content of natural substances present in wild plants and which have no impact on health when consumed normally.

These substances are atropine and scopalamin which are tropane alkaloids. These contaminants “are secondary metabolites, which are naturally present in plants of several families including Brassicaceae, Solanaceae and Erythoxylaceae”, explains the FASFC, on its website. “Tropane alkaloids are responsible for the toxic effects of some of these plants and are found in all parts of plants.”

In agreement with the FASFC, Nutrition & Santé Benelux asks its consumers not to consume the product “Céréal Glutenfree Cookies with chocolate chips” (150 g), sold between 06/10/2022 and 16/06/2023 , and bring it back to the point of sale.

The batch numbers are 51914915, 51916345 and 51916362.

This product concerned was distributed in Belgium in the stores Albert Heijn, Alvo, Carrefour, Colruyt, Cora, Delhaize, Intermarché, Louis Delhaize, Match, Mestdagh, Smatch, Solucious, Spar and Veepee, specifies the communication of Health Nutrition Benelux.
