Farsoon announced this week a new platform for large format laser powder bed 3D metal printing. The new FS1521M has a large construction volume of up to 1650 mm in the Z direction and has 16 lasers. Speed is 400 cm3 of material build-up per hour.
The Chinese manufacturer of AM systems sees demand for large format metal printers increasing, driven in part by the oil and gas, automotive and energy industries. The FS1521M platform has been developed to respond to this.

Extra long Z axis is optional
This 3D metal printer, with 16 fiber lasers of 500 watts each, has a maximum construction volume of 3,862 liters. According to Farsoon, this makes it one of the largest metal printers in the world to date. The standard volume is 1530 mm round and 850 mm high. There will also be a variant with an extended Z-axis, which reaches up to 1650 mm. Farson expects a lot from this for the oil and gas industry as well as aviation. You can also order a rectangular construction room. In that case the capacity is 3,862 liters.
Inconel pints at 3.27 kilograms per hour
The speed at which the new Farsoon metal printer can print is high: in Inconel up to 3.27 kg per hour; expressed in volume, the newcomer reaches 400 cm3 per hour. The new calibration algorithms of the 16-laser scanning strategy allow precise control of the operation and overlap of each laser. This guarantees uniform mechanical properties of the products throughout the construction area. The advanced multi-laser scanning strategies provide optional modes for efficiency, quality or balanced performance for different production needs.
Powder supply
Farsoon has also redesigned the gas flow. The machine has a new permanent filter system for uninterrupted printing. The powder supply system is designed in such a way that new powder can be added without contact. Thanks to its modular and redundant powder container design, the FS1521M provides continuous supply and collection of overflow powder for a simple, streamlined powder management process. Farsoon says it has already installed several of these systems for Chinese customers. The manufacturer will be showing the new platform at the trade fair during TCT Asia.
