Kiev claims that peasant protests in Poland are hurting its war effort. Farmers are demonstrating across Europe to protest the restrictions imposed on them by the European Union’s measures to tackle climate change, as well as rising costs and what they say is unfair competition from abroad, especially from Ukraine. Polish farmers threw eggs at EU offices.
“The blockade of traffic at the border crossings will be complete,” said the representative of the Solidarity farmers’ union, clarifying that only military aid would be allowed to pass through.
The roadblocks will also affect passenger traffic and not just commercial truck traffic. In addition, farmers organize blockades of ports and highways.
The new protests signal an escalation of the mobilizations, as during the previous ones there was not a complete blockade of all border crossings.
Kiev maintains that its agricultural exports through eastern Europe do not have a negative impact on European Union markets.
