Farmers demonstrate outside the Storting – adressa.no

Already on Wednesday morning, demonstrating farmers began to gather outside the Storting. On Wednesday evening, more people have flocked to, and according to NRK some of them are planning to sleep outside the Storting on Thursday night.

Many farmers disagree with the figures that form the basis for this year’s farmers’ settlement. On Thursday, the Storting will vote on the new income calculation, which means that farmers must work 145 hours more than others a year.

The figures that Ap, SP and Høyre have agreed on mean 1,845 working hours for farmers, compared to 1,700 hours for a wage earner. The Norwegian Association of Farmers and Smallholders has announced that they will not accept anything over 1,700 hours.

The farmers themselves believe that the calculation will take away from them the opportunity to earn more than they do today.

After strong criticism, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) has opened up to adjusting the number of hours, but he will not change the rest of the agricultural package.

– Now there are discussions between the parties in the Storting to land the whole package. This with the number of hours is up for discussion, and we are open to discussing it. We think the proposal we put forward is good, but when you are in a minority government you always have to look for a majority with other parties, says Støre to NRK.
