The farmers continue their struggle, and take daily symbolic “actions” at the blockades, focusing on Tuesday’s rally in Athens.
They persist and appear determined to descend on Athens with the tractors in two days, despite the fact that they received a negative response from the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis. According to information, the farmers who will not travel to Athens, are oriented towards blockades of customs and ports.
“Anyway, we will go down with tractors and buses and cars. We are sure that there will be a very large rally not only with the large and united participation of the farmers but also from the people of Athens who feel the precision on their skin” said the president of the Platykampos Block Coordination Committee, Rizos Maroudas.
“The point is that we don’t want to create problems, that’s what we emphasized to Mr. Minister in the city. We want to go peacefully and do our rally and get up and leave nicely and nicely” said the president of the Agricultural Association of Alexandria, Giorgos Diamantopoulos.
In the meantime, the provision was submitted to the Parliament which foresees the return of the Special Consumption Tax on agricultural oil, for this year, and the possibility of advance payment of part of the amount to the farmers. Provisions, with which the relevant announcements of the government are implemented following the meeting at Megaros Maximos.
“The government will implement what it committed to,” government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis told ERT, adding that the government’s interventions are responding to many problems of the agricultural world.
“There is a possibility of mobilizations. Where they can escalate and claim. I am in favor of asserting the demands of the citizens, I am not in favor of settling the diaries” said the president of the SYRIZA KO, Sokratis Famellos, in the First Program.
“There is nothing else that can be given. Will they get in the way if they go down with a tractor? I can’t go into business and say how the police will work, I say that symbolically the farmers can demonstrate from there and beyond that I don’t think that citizens will be able to be prevented from going to work” said the director of the Press Office of Prime Minister, Dimitris Tsiodras.
“My impression is that the government suddenly remembered the agricultural issue when it saw the tractors on the roads. And he decided to take action,” said PASOK MP Giorgos Nikitiadis to ERT.
The farmers’ block in Megala Horafia in Chania was visited earlier by the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoubas, who spoke to those gathered.
