Shortly before a week of protests by the agricultural industry, the farmers’ association called on participants to exercise moderation. The association appealed today on the short message service
“We firmly reject demo symbolism such as gallows, black flags or other symbols of extremist groups,” the post says. One should distance oneself sharply from people who propagated fantasies of subversion or glorified violence.
This also applies to right-wing extremist circles and other radical fringe groups – “also because some of them want to appropriate our protest for their vile concerns”.
Starting Monday, farmers are planning numerous actions to demonstrate once morest the federal government’s agricultural policy. Tractor convoys and rallies are planned.
Escalation when Habeck visits
On Thursday, a protest in Schleswig-Holstein escalated: demonstrators blocked a ferry on the North Sea coast and prevented Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) from getting off. The public prosecutor’s office is investigating.
The incident has led to a broad discussion in politics regarding the protest culture in Germany as a whole. The farmers’ association called on farmers to only demonstrate peacefully and only take part in registered and approved actions. The lobby group referred to the respective state and district farmers’ associations.
