Farmer Wants a Wife Suffers from the Popularity of B&B Full of Love

KRO NCRV + RTL

Farmer Wants a Wife – an iconic reality show that has been popular among the Dutch population for twenty years. Yesterday, the new farmers were introduced – but the show is far from trending on the internet. Has B&B Vol Liefde taken over that role of most beloved (awkward and quaint) show?

It sure seems like it.

New season of Farmer Wants a Wife: will it be a success?

This year will be Farmer Wants a Wife just a little bit different – every farmer who is introduced, participates. So there are no ‘dropouts’ with too few letters. Farmer Deedry and farmers Jan, John, Julius, Martijn and Roel are followed this season. In yesterday’s episode, the farmers were introduced to you and then you will only see this love journey on TV next year. So okay – the program has not really started yet, but where is all the fuss on the internet? Why is #farmerwantswife not trending?

A record low has also been reached 1.613.000 viewers. Of course, that’s still a lot of viewers, but nowhere near the two million the program normally gets.

People cannot do without B&B Vol Liefde

We (the NSMBL editorial team) think there is only one explanation for this: the whole of the Netherlands is just coming out of a kind of B&B obsession, where everything revolved around that program. Whether Els and Robert Jan would ever get back together, whether Mike would finally open up to Noor, whether Anja would fall head over heels in love with sea dog Peter – and so on. Farmer Wants a Wife then suddenly (if we may say so ourselves) no longer feels like ‘enough’. It’s too slow, boring.

If we search on Instagram, Twitter and Google – then noticeably less is shared about it. No crazy or striking situations are shared, no strange statements. The only thing that is talked about is the big house including swimming pool of one of the farmers. Oh – if that is all?

‘Surprise element more fun’

If we ask around the editorial office: what do we prefer to watch? B&B or BzV? Then everyone says unanimously B&B Full of Love. And why? The participants are very different, which makes it fun to watch. In Farmer Wants a Wife they are often the same kind of (slightly awkward) people and just ultimate farmers. The element of surprise is also in B&B Full of Love very entertaining, you never know when a new candidate will arrive and who it will be. In Farmer Wants a Wife are there planned moments of choice and only people are eliminated, no new love candidates are added. It is also nice to look at nice sunny places and those Dutch farms are a bit less charming. Or are we just a bit tired of reality?

When the new season of Farmer Wants a Wife when it really takes off, we’ll see if it increases the popularity of B&B Full of Love approaches.

These farmers are participating in the new season

Would you like to completely immerse yourself in BzV? Then you can read here which farmers (and farmer’s wives!) are taking the chance on a long and happy love life. The 31-year-old Deedry has her own horse breeding company in Brabant. She has her hands full taking care of the horses, but likes to make time to find a nice man. The 45-year-old Martin comes from North Brabant. He is a proud father of three teenagers and owner of a dairy farm.

After being alone for a number of years, he would like to share his life with someone again. Julius is 35 years old and runs a dairy farm with more than a hundred cows. The Frisian has a busy social life, but hopes that with Farmer seeks wife also what action comes into his love life.

The Groningen dairy farmer Jan is the oldest of the six, but is no less energetic than the other farmers. At 59, he is looking forward to not being alone anymore. John is 36 years old and proud father of two children. He is a true entrepreneur and runs a poultry farm in Limburg. With Farmer seeks wife he hopes for a second chance in love. The 38-year-old Roel from North Holland is a born vegetable grower. In the summer he grows different types of cabbage and in the winter he grows tulips. Roel can’t wait to let love bloom.

It is cute and cozy, so somewhere we expect a hype around the program again next year. We’ll see.
