“The personal decision of SPÖ Upper Austria chairman Michael Lindner must be accepted. Unfortunately this is the timing, but it is to be accepted. The SPÖ Upper Austria is stable in terms of personnel and finances. We have more than two and a half years to continue the successful work,” says Stangl. He expressly supports Alois Stöger taking over as executive chairman on Monday.

“Michael handed over the SPÖ state parliament club to me two years ago in a good and strong condition. A foundation that I could build on well. In the meantime, he has also done a lot of positive development work in the state party and in the government department. “I would like to thank him for this personally and on behalf of social democracy,” said Sabine Engleitner-Neu, thanking her outgoing party leader for his commitment.

Dietmar Prammer (Linz Vice Mayor, SPÖ)
“Michael Lindner’s decision to withdraw from politics deserves respect. The fact that he gives priority to his responsibility as a father over his political career shows a human greatness that has unfortunately become rare in politics. We respect him even more as a political comrade-in-arms miss more,” says Dietmar Prammer.
He thanked Lindner for working to promote mutual trust and unity in the SPÖ. The relationship between the Linz city party and the state level has noticeably improved with Lindner – he became state party leader and state councilor in 2022.

“Michael Lindner’s resignation is a moment that makes us pause – with gratitude. The question of how to reconcile politics and family concerns many of us. In recent years, Michael has not only had a positive influence on politics in Upper Austria, but also on that of the SPÖ. His ability to build bridges – not least between town and country – and to bring the party together in Upper Austria will hopefully leave a formative impression,” says Markus Vogl, representing all SP mayors.

Michael Raml (Linz City Council, FPÖ)
“I personally wish the outgoing SPÖ chairman all the best. Despite all consideration for Lindner’s private decision, one should not forget that the SPÖ is riddled with personnel shortages, especially in the state capital Linz and obviously throughout the entire state,” says Michael Raml. Unfortunately, this also leads to unplanning and unstructured processes, where the SPÖ should actually bear responsibility. For Raml, Alois Stöger “unfortunately does not represent the necessary dynamism that we as Upper Austrians and Linzers need to master the extremely economically challenging tasks of the future.
