“Far out” – Apple presents new iPhones, watches and headphones

Yesterday evening Apple held the annual keynote with a video event and presented various new devices and their new functions. Although numerous journalists were at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California, the keynote speech took place as a video event.

The Apple Watch Series 8 will be presented first. It’s packed with new features, including the much-hyped skin temperature sensor. This has two tasks: both sleep monitoring and controlling the menstrual cycle. Thanks to its design with two sensors, it can even detect temperature fluctuations of 0.1 degrees Celsius, according to Apple.

According to Apple, monitoring temperature changes can identify ovulation and provide information regarding any deviations from the “usual” cycle – at least those that can indicate other health problems. This data can be protected with a 2FA.

Another new function is used to detect accidents in vehicles. Several motion sensors are used here, including an accelerometer, a barometer and GPS. In the event of an accident, the stored emergency number is automatically contacted.

The Apple Watch Series 8 has an all-day battery life of 18 hours, but this can be boosted to 36 hours with a new energy-saving mode.

The watch is available in four colors: Midnight, Starlight, Silver and Product Red. There is also a metallic version in silver, gold and graphite. Prices start at 429 francs – the watch will be available from September 16th.
