The FAO representative in Venezuela, Alexis Bonte, indicated that this date must be celebrated thinking of those who cannot celebrate. “That’s why we talk regarding leaving no one behind. We must not forget that there are those who live in isolated areas or in extreme poverty,” he said.
He added that the transformation of agri-food systems is essential so that healthy diets are less expensive, and reach the largest number of people: “Our role, with partners and actors, is to offer options so as not to leave anyone behind. We provide support to boost agri-food production, since Venezuela has all the potential to feed its population.”
For her part, Laura Melo, WFP representative in Venezuela, stressed that this date is propitious to especially recognize the work that is done with remote populations and in conditions of high vulnerability. “Food is an opportunity, especially in young children and school-age children. When there is sufficient, available and quality food in homes, there are boys and girls with better learning, better opportunities to develop their potential, and individuals and families capable of building their own future. We are very pleased to hear that when we talk to mothers, fathers, representatives and school personnel in the states where we have our school meals program here in Venezuela”, she stated.
