They will do a new Fantastic Four reboot within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but now we have bad news.
The movie of The Fantastic Four has lost its director Jon Watts. Responsible for the trilogy Spider-Man from Tom Holland had been confirmed for this other Marvel Studios installment that was due to launch very soon. But he has abandoned the project and they must find a replacement for him.
Jon Watts has revealed that he will not direct The Fantastic Four why: “I need a break from the realm of superheroes. Doing three Spider-Man movies was an incredible and life-changing experience for me. I am forever grateful to have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for seven years. I look forward to working together once more and can’t wait to see the incredible vision of the Fantastic Four come to life.”
Kevin FeigePresident of Marvel Studiosalso commented that: “We were eager to continue our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four to the MCU, but we understand and support his reasons for walking away. We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together once more at some point down the road.”
This is very bad news.
Jon Watts was the ideal candidate to restart The Fantastic Four since he has shown how to handle superheroes very well with the movies of Spider-Manwhich curiously also had two previous sagas and managed to do something different, ignoring important parts that we had already seen in the cine. So he just had to replicate the formula for the most famous family of heroes in Marvel.
It will be interesting to see which director they will hire to do The Fantastic Four, since they can opt for a consolidated filmmaker in the franchise or give the opportunity to someone with less experience. Although there are two ideal candidates. The first is James Gunnwho has proven to be a great with the Guardians of the Galaxy. the other is John Krasinskithat everyone believes will be the new Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic and who has also proven to be a great director with the saga A quiet place.
