Fans throw objects and delay J2 SD-LAD

The second NLDS game between the Padres and the Dodgers was delayed for about 9 minutes because fans threw objects on the field.

The tension began on the field, when Dodgers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty hit Tatis Jr. in the left side with an 0-1 sinker to start the sixth inning. Flaherty briefly apologized, but Profar and Dodgers catcher Will Smith, who made headlines earlier this season by calling Profar “irrelevant,” exchanged words at the plate.

Moments later, Flaherty struck out Manny Machado, yelled at him and motioned for him to return to the dugout. Machado became aware of Flaherty’s comments as he approached the dugout railing and stared at Flaherty as he was taken out of the game immediately afterward. Machado and Flaherty continued to argue when Machado returned to defend in the top of the seventh.

Fans became involved, causing a nine-minute delay.

San Diego won the game 10-2, to tie the best-of-five series 1-1.
