A YouTuber presents an impressive “fan remake” of Grand Theft Auto 3 with the Unreal Engine 5. The video shows Liberty City in fascinating graphics and invites you to marvel.

It doesn’t really need to be mentioned that the official GTA 3 remake from Rockstar Games wasn’t a real hit. It is all the more painful to see what might have been. The YouTuber “Flames per second” recently published a video that shows Grand Theft Auto 3 as a “fan remake” with Unreal Engine 5.

In order to set up this “fan remake” as a project, the Youtuber used a series of mods for GTA 5. First, he ported the map Liberty City Remix Mod into Unreal Engine 5. He used one for the updated 3D models Claude Mod and the 8-Ball Mod. Project FromThePast Mod (a car pack) was then used for the vehicles. The YouTube video is 11 minutes long in total and shows various basic gameplay options, such as vehicle physics, car chases or even a helicopter flight.

Even if such a remake project based on UE5 officially remains wishful thinking, the video gives a good impression of what a modern remake might have looked like. And Liberty City in Unreal Engine 5 guise invites you to marvel and reminisce. Lighting effects and reflections look impressive, while Liberty City’s presentation is in no way inferior to GTA 5’s San Andreas. But whether the project will ever be made available to the public is another matter.
