The World Health Organization revealed that cases of coronavirus infection around the world have witnessed a significant increase for 4 weeks, stressing the need to return to following precautionary measures, most notably wearing a mask.
The BA.5 variant is part of the Omicron family of coronaviruses, the latest variant of the coronavirus that has caused widespread waves of infection globally. According to the World Health Organization’s latest report, it was behind 52% of cases in late June, up more than 37% in one week in the United States, and is estimated to cause regarding 65% of infections, according to Archyde.com in its English version. .
And BA.5 is not a new variant of the Omicron mutant, but was first discovered last January, and the World Health Organization has tracked it since April of this year.
The BA.5 variant is characterized by its greater ability to grow and spread more than other Omicron variants, as well as evading the body’s immunity by obtaining vaccination or previous infection.
During this period, the incidence of colds, or what is known as “fan cold”, and in light of the spread of the new variant, there are signs that show you the difference between infection with the regular flu and infection with the new variant of Omicron, according to what was reported by the “worldometers” website.
It is not possible to distinguish between influenza and the Corona virus just by looking at the symptoms alone because the symptoms are similar, so the examination that reveals the type of infection is considered,
Differences:
If a person has the coronavirus, it may take longer for symptoms to appear than if they had the flu.
Influenza, a person usually suffers from symptoms in one to 4 days following infection, and as for corona, a person often suffers with symptoms from two to 14 days following infection.
Signs and symptoms
Similarity:
According to Dr. Magdy Badran, a member of the Egyptian Society of Allergy and Immunology, in a statement to Masrawy, the common signs and symptoms of colds and flu include:
• High temperature
• muscle pain
• Chills and sweating
• headache
• Dry and persistent cough
• shortness of breath
• Fatigue and weakness
• stuffy or runny nose

Feeling uncomfortable
Mild cough in some cases
There is no loss of taste or smell.
There are 4 distinct symptoms of Omicron that differ from the symptoms of the common cold, and they are:
Nausea.
Vomiting.
– Anorexia.
Night sweats.
Badran put to “Masrawy” a prescription for the prevention of colds and influenza, to include the following:
Wash hands well with warm water and soap, and dry them because wet hands transmit microbes.
Do not take antibiotics without consulting a doctor because they weaken immunity and increase the duration of the disease. They are also intended to eliminate bacteria, while colds are viral.
Not playing with hands in the nose, eyes and mouth, because winter viruses enter the body through them, and hands are usually contaminated, and therefore when touching the mouth, nose and eyes, the chances of winter diseases increase.
Children in general, infants in particular, the elderly, drug and alcohol addicts, and smokers are the most vulnerable groups to colds.
– Staying away from smoking in all forms of nicotine. Tobacco increases the temperature of the skin, especially with the consumption of alcohol, as tobacco products reduce the circulation of blood in the skin and delay attempts to warm it.
Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, as they provide the body with antioxidants that protect once morest pollution and free radicals, fiber that raises immunity and reduces allergies, and vitamins that raise immunity, such as vitamin A and vitamin D.
Vitamin A is available in:
Breastfeeding of children.
Eat eggs, milk, butter, liver, carrots, potatoes, spinach, broccoli, beets, tomatoes, bell peppers, peas, mangoes, cantaloupes, apricots, oranges, peaches, papas.
