Famous rapper sentenced to death for supporting protests: Iranian media

Iranian media reported on Wednesday that a revolutionary court in the country Mehsa Amini Jailed for a year and a half for supporting nationwide protests after the death of famous The rapper Tomaj Salehi Ko Death penalty Heard.

The singer’s lawyer, Amir Raisan, told an Iranian newspaper that ‘Isfahan Revolutionary Court Branch 1…sentenced Tomaj Salehi to death on charges of land corruption.’

Tomaj, 33, was arrested in October 2022 after supporting a wave of public protests.

Lawyer Amir Raisan added, ‘We will certainly appeal against the sentence. The court ‘in an unprecedented move, asserted its independence and did not implement the Supreme Court’s decision.’

“The Supreme Court, as an appellate authority, reviewed the case and directed the lower court to correct the defects in the conviction,” he added.

Months of unrest since Mehsa Amini’s death on September 16, 2022 have left hundreds dead, including dozens of security personnel, and thousands arrested.

Iranian officials called the protests “riots” and accused Tehran’s foreign enemies of fomenting the unrest.

Nine people have been hanged in cases related to protest-related killings and other violence against security forces.
