The inhabitants of the town of Sebba, capital of the province of Yagha, in the north of Burkina Faso, subjected to a “blockade” of jihadist groups for a month, have launched a cry of alarm, saying they are threatened with famine. .
The small town of Sebba, located in the north of the country, has been blocked by a group of jihadists for a month. The supply of food and water is impossible there. Nearly 30,000 people live there and are directly threatened.
« There is no supply, the local market is empty, the shops are closed so people have nothing to eat, describes Ulrich Crépin Namfeibona, head of the Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) mission in Burkina Faso, who went there at the end of July. There is also the problem of access to drinking water, because the city’s water supply system no longer works. »
« Obviously, access to health care is private, so people do not have the possibility of being treated today in Sebba. Almost all of the health personnel who were there left the locality, and those who remained today live in the same psychosis as the population. If nothing is done in the days to come, the population will experience a situation of famine. Médecins sans Frontières calls for the mobilization of humanitarian actors and the United Nations. We need these answers as soon as possible, to relieve the population of Sebba. »
