It’s a real drama experienced by Daryo, a 5-year-old young man from Estin, disfigured by his grandmother’s dog. As usual, the young man had left with his dad, Logan, to visit his maternal grandmother. He then hastened to go and play with the latter’s dog just a few meters from his dad. A few minutes later, Logan was challenged by cries from his son. It was then that he noticed that the dog, an Australian Shepherd, was biting his son in the face. He then quickly intervened to save him and call for help.

”I go once or twice a week to my ex-girlfriend’s grandmother. My son then takes the opportunity to play with the dog. He throws the ball at her, goes to look for her like many do with their animal,” says Logan, dad of little Daryo, 5 years old. “While they are playing together, I stay in the kitchen, just a few meters away, to keep an eye on them. As I was talking with Lindsay’s grandmother, I heard my son scream. I then rushed into the garden and that’s when I saw my son’s head in the dog’s mouth. I intervened to free my son and call for help. The dog then came back to the charge before I pushed him away.”

Quickly on the spot, the emergency services took care of little Daryo before taking him to the hospital. He was then transferred to the Saint-Luc hospital in Brussels where he will have to undergo a whole series of operations. “The doctors speak of several months of hospitalization. They still want to be reassuring regarding the state of health of our son who remains unrecognizable despite everything. Her cheeks were hanging down and you might see through her mouth. He will have to undergo several operations but will probably not come out without sequelae. Currently he is conscious but cannot speak due to his tracheostomy. It’s very hard for us,” continues Logan.

A call for donations launched

In addition to the emotional aspect which really takes a hit during such dramas, the financial aspect will become complicated to manage for the family who has launched an appeal for donations. “Since the accident, I no longer sleep. I have nightmares every night. I don’t even dare to sleep at my son’s bedside for fear of waking him up or not waking me up in the event of a problem. So it’s Lindsay who stays by his side,” explains Logan. “Financially, it’s not easy for us. Between gasoline, parking, hospital and food costs, necessary to make the daily round trip to Brussels, the bill climbs quickly. This is why we have decided to launch a call for donations.

In concrete terms, people wishing to help the family can pay their donation to the mother’s account: BE70 0016 9922 9125. These donations will allow the family to travel to Brussels during the many months of their son’s hospitalization. “We fill up twice a week plus parking at 20 euros a day, the bill is climbing quickly,” reports Logan. “We received support from a huge number of people. This allows us to be stronger in this ordeal”, concludes Lindsay, the mother of little Daryo.
