As revealed on Friday at the end of the day, a large police force was deployed at the start of rue Émile Vandervelde in Bouffioulx (Châtelet). Traffic in both directions was blocked by local police as special units attempted to defuse the tense situation at a grandmother’s home.
A 19-year-old young woman, mother of a 9-month-old child, took refuge in the house. Armed with a blank pistol, the latter was holed up with her baby and a little nine-year-old boy, “a cousin” confirmed this Saturday by the Charleroi prosecutor’s office. Fortunately, shortly following 6:30 p.m., the suspect finally surrendered to the authorities and was deprived of her liberty.
A tense family conflict
The day following the events, the Charleroi public prosecutor returned to the context at the origin of the facts. “It’s a family conflict regarding the suspect’s situation and the grandmother’s criticisms regarding her way of handling her baby”specifies Sandrine Vairon, division prosecutor of Charleroi.
The judicial authority confirms that alternative measures will be requested from the investigating judge. “She lives there and the family situation remains tense”, finishes the flooring. L.C.
