The Austrian Family Association celebrates Active Father’s Day every September 1st. “This is not to glorify fathers, but to emphasize that active fatherhood is part of everyday life,” explains Abg, president of the Family Association. “Children need parents who take their role seriously and are there for them. In Austria, father’s leave is an established option and we want to encourage more fathers to take advantage of this option. Our goal is to make father’s maternity leave a matter of course in Austria matter,” stressed the chairman of the family association.
Through the “Active Father’s Day” campaign, the Family Association hopes to draw attention to the diverse tasks of fathers and emphasize their central role in children’s lives.
As of September 1, 2019, employed fathers in the Austrian private sector have the legal right to be exempted from work. From January 1, 2024, this so-called family time bonus is supported by Ꞓ 52.46 per day, which means a total of approximately Ꞓ 1,580 in the first month after birth. Family Time Bonus must be applied for with the relevant health insurance company. “The family time bonus is just one of the many supports available to Austrian families. Fathers have the opportunity to spend time with their children. Children need both father and mother as caregivers. If parents distribute caregiving fairly, it will be easier for them to combine work and family .
This year, the Family Association once again invites fathers to participate in the “Active Father’s Day” competition. The main prize is a trip from ÖBB to Hamburg for two adults and two children in the new ÖBB Nightjet comfort cabin carriage, which includes two overnight stays. Piatnik and Ravensburger also have other attractive prices.
