Lightning survey on the fixed service fee: People want to decide for themselves whether to tip as a sign of appreciation.
The willingness to say thank you for good service and quality is very high. For most guests, tipping is a matter of course. A mandatory service fee is the wrong approach in times of rampant inflation and spoils the enjoyment of the culinary experience for guests

Vienna (OTS/LCG) – A fixed service fee, which is added to the invoice amount, has been causing a stir for days following guests complained regarding the practice in a restaurant on Vienna’s Naschmarkt. The largest magazine for culinary lifestyle now surveyed the enjoyment community and came to a clear result. In a lightning survey, 78 percent are once morest mandatory tips.
Tipping is given regularly and gladly. However, people want to decide how much they want and see tips as voluntary recognition of good service and high quality. More than three quarters of those surveyed regularly tip ten percent. Over 14 percent recognize the performance of the staff with 15 percent and more.
Even if the service was not entirely satisfactory, 65 percent still tip. Only 35 percent refuse to tip if the visit to the restaurant does not meet their expectations.
“The willingness to say thank you for good service and quality is very high. For most guests, tipping is a matter of course. In times of rampant inflation, a mandatory service fee is the wrong approach and spoils the enjoyment of the culinary experience for guests.”
the Falstaff editor sums up Wolfgang M. Rosam.
