Identical twin girls have been awarded $1.5 million in restitution after being falsely accused of cheating by the Medical University of South Carolina during year-end exams, according to the New York Post.
Installed in a room less than two meters from each other, the University had first noticed suspicious nods and very similar answers during the final exam.
After verification, the institution then accused the sisters Kayla and Kellie Bingham of having cheated.
First found guilty, they were cleared a few days after the verdict.
The twins made a career change and went on to study law to become a lawyer.
In 2017, they sued the school for defamation.
It was only in the last days that a Charleston court ruled in favor of the sisters.
A psychologist even mentioned during the trial that a different result on the exam would have been surprising since the twin sisters have the same genetics.
“We’ve lived with this for the past six years and now our lives have been returned to us,” says Kayla Bingham.
