Two businessmen were scammed following two subjects approached their businesses and purchased certain products. The thugs would pay with the application ‘Yape’ to facilitate the purchase. Nevertheless, the screenshot they showed was false and the money never entered the owners’ account.
According to a report by Latina Noticias, uA hardware store and a veterinarian were almost scammed by a criminal who, apparently, is the same person.

The first case is carried out by the hardware store businessman Hilton Jara, who regarding three weeks ago received some messages to his business number asking for paints and electrical cables valued at 500 soles.
“They called me and I told him: ‘How many rolls do you want?’
After a few minutes, they sent him a screenshot of the voucher for 500 soles. At that moment, the scammer tells them to deliver the product to the person who is in a red vehicle outside the premises.

“The lady called me once more and told me to tell my worker to send her off quickly, because there is a red car waiting there. And I tell the lady that fair I’m watching the BCP and there is no deposit and he tells me: ‘How can there not be? Check well ‘, and he cuts me off”.
That was the last conversation he had with the female who identified herself as Alisson. At that time, following observing the catch with the deposit, he was surprised that it wasn’t real.

By not having the cell phone linked to the QR code of Yape at that moment, he believed him; however, he noticed that the voucher they sent him also had imperfections. In both cases, the red vehicle never appeared to pick up the merchandise.

Rufino Arribas, leader of Yape, pointed out that this modality of scam has become known and added that the app issues a message that corroborates each deposit.
“Our recommendation is to always validate that the money has entered your account, those excuses of: ‘I didn’t get the message’ or ‘It doesn’t update’, it’s not like that. It’s what the scammer is using as a tool to stump people into not validating.”
