Kochi: Under the guise of Income Tax officials, 300 grams of gold and Rs 1.80 lakh were stolen from a house. The victim was identified as Sanjay, a goldsmith from Maharashtra, who lives near Aluva Bank Junction. A team of four men arrived at his home, informed him that they were Income Tax officials, and searched his home and stole gold and cash.
On Sunday morning at 11 am, four well – dressed men arrived at Sanjay’s house. They said they were from the Income Tax Department and had come for the raid. When asked for his identity card, he was shown some documents on his mobile phone. After that, a team of four went to Sanjay’s house and started searching. This time they bought the family’s mobile phones. He also requested Sanjay and his wife to co-operate in the raid.
The team searched the house for regarding two hours. Meanwhile, the gold and cash kept in the cupboard were seized. They also bought documents including Sanjay’s Aadhaar card and PAN card. He said that if the Income Tax Department goes to the office and gives the account, all the seized items can be released. They then asked for the DVR of the CCTV camera as they were leaving the house. This is what made the householder doubtful. Sanjay had informed the Aluva police following the gang of four returned home. When the police arrived, they came to know that they were swindlers and robbers.
At the same time, the DVR Although the robbers seized it, they were able to recover some CCTV footage from the mobile. Sanjay handed over the footage to the police. Aluva police have intensified their investigation into the incident.
