Fall in inflation rate ‘not an accident’: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday expressed satisfaction that the inflation rate in the country has reached a single digit i.e. 9.6% in the last three years and said that this is not an ‘accident’ but the ‘results’ of the government’s performance.

Pakistan’s annual inflation (inflation) rate fell to 9.6 percent in August last year, the first time in nearly three years, the Bureau of Statistics said.

In his message on X, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said: ‘This is not an accident! Here are the results!’

He added: ‘My focus is on giving relief to the common man. We’re not done yet and there’s a lot more to do, but we’re making real progress.’

According to the official news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the reduction of inflation rate yesterday. On the other hand, government spokesman and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said that the recent decrease in inflation to single digits is proof of the wise economic policies of the federal government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In response to a question during the question period in the National Assembly on Monday evening, he said that according to the report of the State Bank, inflation was recorded at 9.6%.

Industries and Production Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain has said that the government is not considering any plan to close the Utility Stores Corporation. He was talking to a delegation of Utility Stores Corporation employees in Islamabad on Monday.

Rana Tanveer Hussain said that various methods are being considered for the restructuring of the Utility Store Corporation. He said that a new subsidy system is being devised to bring more transparency. Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized that no unilateral action will be taken by the government to close down the institution.
