On the occasion of Gottfried Helnwein’s 75th birthday, the Albertina is showing an exhibition of his work from the past two decades from October 25th. To mark the occasion, Sony Music is releasing Falco’s second album “Junge Roemer” on vinyl and the song of the same name as a picture disc in strictly limited Helnwein editions on October 6th. Both products feature previously unpublished images that were taken during a photo session between the two artists in 1984.

“Falco was the Viennese version of cool and he became an international idol,” Helnwein is quoted as saying in a press release from the record company. “But in my memory he is above all the friend and person Hans Hölzel. He was extremely kind, warm-hearted, humorous and intelligent, but also shy and vulnerable.”

The second Falco album, in the special edition limited to 3,333 copies worldwide, is adorned with a picture of the singer in a leather jacket, looking (under sunglasses) at Helnwein (also with glasses). The painter, photographer, sculptor and draftsman contributed liner notes for this vinyl LP “Junge Roemer” (without bonus tracks). A picture disc of the title song (including a remix on the B-side) with an alternative Falco Helnwein cover will also be released, limited to 2,500 copies.

After the huge success of their debut “Einzelhaft” (1982), “Junge Roemer” from 1984 was supposed to be more polished, more polished and more sophisticated than the first album. Robert Ponger once more acted as producer and songwriter. Although the album mightn’t live up to its predecessor commercially at the time, it earned late laurels and is now a fan favorite.
