Fake news! Open your phone between 00:30-03:30, cosmic rays approaching the earth, causing harm to the body.

Regarding the forwarding of a warning message about not turning on your phone between 00:30-03:30 AM because cosmic rays approaching the Earth will cause damage to your body, the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, has investigated the information and clarified that this message is not true in any way because there was no prediction of the arrival of cosmic rays between 00:30-03:30 AM as claimed. Cosmic rays are only a small fraction of the amount of radiation that humans receive each year. Although cosmic rays may affect electronic devices, the effects cannot have any negative effects on the human body.

Cosmic rays striking the Earth’s atmosphere are responsible for keeping the amount of carbon-14 in the atmosphere almost constant for the past 100,000 years. In addition, cosmic rays accidentally striking computer chips can sometimes cause them to lose or gain electrons, which can cause computer errors known as “soft errors.” In the 1990s, IBM estimated that cosmic rays could cause one computer to miscalculate for every 256 megabytes (two billion bits) of data every month. However, the effects of cosmic rays on electronics are limited to the software and cannot be affected by the people around the devices.

Therefore, we would like to warn the public not to believe it and ask for cooperation in not sending or sharing such information on various social media channels.
