A completely fake Colombian basketball team He managed to fool the organizers and take part in an international tournament in the city of Perm, Russia. This unusual case has caused a stir in the world of basketball.
The tournament, dubbed the Friendship Cup, was organized by the Russian Basketball Federation as an initiative to keep its teams active amid the international isolation resulting from the invasion of Ukraine. With the participation of local teams and the supposed inclusion of national teams from Colombia and Venezuela, the event promised to feature good basketball and friendship between nations.
However, everything changed when the Colombian team lost its first match with a score of 155-53, something that immediately raised suspicions about the legitimacy of the team. The alarm bells began to ring loudly when, in the second match, the Colombian team was defeated again, this time by Venezuela, with a large score of 108-57.
The Coup.
The Friendship Tournament was held in Perm, Russia, from 21 to 25 August. BC Parma (the local team that plays in the Russian first division) and the national teams of Russia, Venezuela and Colombia were present. But something didn’t add up.

The Russian organizers, baffled by the poor level of the Colombian players, began to investigate, which led to the discovery of an incredible truth: The Colombian team participating in the tournament had no official affiliation with the Colombian Basketball Federation (FCB).
In reality, it was a group of amateur players, led by Christian David Mosquera Durán, a young Colombian resident in Russia who He had hacked the FCB email account to impersonate the official representative of Colombian basketball.
Mosquera Duran, a 25-year-old student who plays in the local 3×3 basketball league in Kazan, He managed to convince the Russian organizers that his team was the official Colombian team. Using a hacked email, he negotiated the team’s participation, securing plane tickets and accommodation in four-star hotels for himself and his friends, who formed the fake team. His plan seemed perfect until the team’s poor performance on the field exposed it.
The Colombian Basketball Federation’s reaction was not long in coming. After learning of the scandal, they issued a statement clarifying that they never received an official invitation to participate in the tournament and that, at no time, did they authorize any team to represent Colombia in the Friendship Cup. In addition, they announced that they would take legal action against those responsible for the improper use of the federation’s image and name, as well as the national emblem and flag.
For its part, the Russian Basketball Federation, through its president Andrei Kirilenko, a former NBA player, tried to minimize the impact of the scandal by claiming that all communications with the Colombian team were carried out through official channels. However, the lack of adequate verification of the identity of the players before the start of the tournament left the Russian Federation in an awkward and questionable position.
The Colombian Basketball Federation already has begun the process to identify all those involved in the fraud and ensure that situations like this do not happen again. Meanwhile, Christian David Mosquera Durán has disappeared from the public scene, deleting his social media accounts and avoiding any kind of statement about the incident.
