According to the cybersecurity company ESET, a few hours following the video with the song was published, several fake accounts appeared posing as the brand. Casio. In some cases launching false statements that some media replicated.
ESET analyzed the phenomenon of the increase in unofficial Casio accounts on social networks, promoting false news as a clear example of the opportunism of scammers who take advantage of mass interest topics to deceive people.
“It may seem harmless, but the example helps us to become aware of the speed with which false news spreads and how the opportunism of some actors can be used to deceive people, either by disclosing fake news or doing some other malicious action,” he said. On Twitter, the only verified account linked to Casio is @CASIOedu. It appears as Educational Division and has the verification mark. After analyzing these accounts, ESET observed that some were created in January 2023 and others in 2022, but its first publication dates from January 13 of this year, which shows the intention to capitalize on the interest that the release of the song aroused and the reactions it caused.
