Renowned musician and singer known as the ‘Emperor of Qawwali’ Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan The news of the release of a new album featuring his unheard recordings has rekindled the memories of his fans.
Holding the distinction of making the most recordings of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Faisalabad Mian Muhammad Asad, son of Chaudhry Rehmat Ali, owner of K Rehmat Gramophone, says that he also has many recordings of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, which have not been released anywhere.
Mian Muhammad Asad told Independent Urdu: ‘We also have a lot of his material lying around but we will bring it out in time so that those who are Nusrat lovers can listen to it and enjoy it.’
He claims that he has 50 to 60 recordings of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s qawwalis and ghazals which have not been heard till date.
According to Mian Asad, he has had a telephonic contact with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s daughter Nida Nusrat in this regard and he wants to launch this entire project with her coordination.
In this regard, Independent Urdu also tried to contact Nida Nusrat, the daughter of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, but no response has been received from her yet.

Reminiscing about Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Mian Asad said that he used to recite Qawwali at various private gatherings and on the anniversary of Darbar Lasuri Shah in front of his residence in Jhang Bazar.
‘Then he got into the world of cassettes. Our father brought them and recorded Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. I remember the first volume ‘Yadaan Vachhe Sajjan Diyan Ayaan’ came out and was very popular. After that he released ‘Ali Maula’, in this too he went to the heights of volume.’
He said that of course he became an international star later but he maintained his relationship with Chaudhry Rahmat and his family as before.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is praised less. If the songs of Nusrat are being played in a place, no one will say that this song should be played or this qawwali or this ghazal should be played, people used to listen to their singing. They are under-appreciated. I have never seen a dervish person like him.’
He said that whatever material Rehmat Gramophone had regarding Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, it has been preserved.
‘Whenever anyone wants in the world, I will provide for him and do it free of charge so that the name of Khan Sahib will live on, but it will have four moons.’
According to Mian Asad, people still know him and his family in reference to Rehmat Gramo Phone House and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
‘My daughter Sameen used to study in Asad National Textile University. This textile university gave him a special thesis at the end of his semester to write a thesis on Rahmat Gramophone, it was a huge institution and Nusrat was specially mentioned in it.’
He said that when his daughter completed her thesis and exhibited it at the university, it was well received.
