Seeing the portraits made by him, one feels the reality, but even today the artist who created such wonderful masterpieces might not get the attention of the government institutions created for the patronage of art and artists.

In a conversation with Independent Urdu, Imran Khan said that his education had ended in his childhood due to poverty and difficult financial conditions.

‘My father used to repair bicycles but he suddenly fell ill and I had to drop out of school. I have been repairing bicycles ever since.’

He said that he had a passion for fine arts since his childhood, seeing which Salim Ansari, assistant professor and senior artist of National Textile University, Faisalabad, took him as his disciple.

It is because of Saleem Ansari that I am at this position today. He taught me this skill and saw my passion and dedication in this work.’

According to Imran Khan, it takes at least seven to 10 days to make a portrait because he does the entire portrait in pencil and it requires a lot of effort.

“So far I have done regarding 1500 portraits, which are displayed in the Faisalabad Arts Council. Various universities and colleges also have portraits of Quaid-e-Azam made by my hands.’

He said that there is no income from this work in Faisalabad and he does this work for peace of mind and to satisfy his passion.

He further said that the portraits of the Quaid-e-Azam that he made for various educational institutions or government offices got him some encouragement, but not from the common people.

According to Imran: ‘Those who are ordinary people, if I tell them that I will take five thousand rupees for a portrait, they say take one thousand rupees. Now this is not a job worth 1,200 rupees, it is a labor-intensive job.

According to Imran Khan, he has participated in regarding 10 to 12 group exhibitions and in 2010 he has won the first position in the exhibition held at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad.

According to Imran: “As many exhibitions as there are in private art galleries, when invitations come, they put up displays, but I have never received any message from the Faisalabad Arts Council asking you to come here.”
