Abu Dhabi, October 17 / WAM / Emirati champion Faisal Al Ketbi has established his name as one of the best jiu-jitsu champions in the world, as he was able to win several titles; Starting from the Asian Championships, through the World Championships, and the World Games, all the way to the Asian Games “twice,” not to mention many other tournaments at all levels. His latest achievement last week was retaining the gold medal at the Asian Games in the Chinese city of Hangzhou.
Al-Ketbi succeeded in defending his title, defeating South Korea’s Hyesung with the advantage of points in the men’s under-85 kg category.
Al-Ketbi stressed that his performance in the tournament and all his previous achievements came thanks to the unlimited support of the wise leadership, as he said: I have always enjoyed unlimited support from the wise leadership throughout my career since I started in 2006, and the credit goes to them for everything I have achieved today.”
The 35-year-old player also showed his great appreciation for the role of His Excellency Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi, President of the Emirati and Asian Federations and First Vice President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation, with him as well, who contributed to supporting his distinguished career with achievements.
Al Ketbi said, “The great support of His Excellency Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi since the beginning of my career in jiu-jitsu and his great confidence in my abilities constitute a strong incentive that pushed me to continue my career and enhance my record of achievements.”
He proved that age is just a number in the sport of jiu-jitsu, and that the player’s determination and persistence are the shortest path to sustained success and giving, stressing his intention to continue his quest to win more titles. Al Ketbi, whose sporting career extends for regarding 20 years, also confirmed that he always seeks to create beautiful memories and achieve further development and progress, and translate this through achieving titles and raising the country’s name high in various forums.
He won his first medal in 2007 during the Asian Super Cup hosted by the capital, Abu Dhabi, where he won second place, and he keeps this medal in his office to this day.
Al Ketbi explained that he has dozens of gold medals associated with the country’s name in global, continental and international championships, and with every achievement he achieves he seeks to start once more to reap more.
The most prominent titles he achieved during his victorious career include the gold at the World Games in Warsaw in 2021, the gold at the World Games in Birmingham, USA in 2022, the gold at the World Championships in 2021 and 2023, the gold at the Masters in Jakarta 2018, the gold at the Masters in China 2023, and the list of honors goes on.
It is noteworthy that Al-Ketbi tried many sports before discovering his passion for jiu-jitsu. Al-Ketbi says: “I hold the Asian gold in wrestling, in addition to other medals in multiple classifications. I also won many medals in triathlon championships, and medals in endurance races for horses. I succeeded in winning medals in all the sports that I participated in it, and in 2007 I decided to focus on jiu-jitsu.
