Fahd Al-Kubaisi, a well-known Qatari singer and artist, has his fans, he has his own singing works and concerts, he is currently working on presenting songs in the Egyptian dialect that he is training to master, and it is known that singing in the Egyptian dialect is a goal for those who want to be more popular in the Arab world, as well as the Gulf dialects, especially Saudi Arabia. We are not talking regarding this, but regarding an idea raised by singer Al-Kubaisi, in an interview with Al-Arabiya network. It is worth contemplating, so what is it?

Fahd Al-Kubaisi said: “The art scene is completely different now than it was before the advent of “Social Media.” how?

The Gulf artist answers: “The artistic community was governed by the law of scarcity, but now the matter is completely different. The artist has become present and available to the public in an exaggerated manner, and the means of communication have become accommodating various trends and levels, and it is difficult to control them. The value of the artist today has changed, and he is no longer like the previous”. However, there is a difference between the social media artist and the “classic” artist, so what is it?

According to Al-Kubaisi, the true and permanent artist has a legacy that will continue for the future, lasting, and forming a river that always flows in the waters of art, while “the star of the media has nothing to inherit, the artist presents himself and his art, but the other party has nothing to offer to the public.” He expressed his surprise at the confusion of some between famous “social media” and “artists”.

This is how the artist Al-Kubaisi, who works on his projects with patience, research and forbearance, spoke like every owner of true craftsmanship and creativity.

The truth is that the issue of scarcity, which was the engine of passion and enjoyment previously, in contrast to the factor of “saturation” and excess saturation that we see with the floods of social media, is a serious issue, which has its followingmath, and we are still at the beginning of the frightening journey!

I want you to imagine if the flood of live broadcasts, or “broadcasts,” as it is said in Saudi Arabia regarding the live broadcast service for “Tik Tok” accounts, existed fifty years and more ago, would the state of singing, theater, cinema and series be as it was, from the audience’s passion for it?

It may be said that the public was forced to do so because of the scarcity factor, but who said that scarcity is a bad thing in any case?

The beautiful Yemeni poet, critic and researcher, the late Dr. Abd al-Aziz al-Maqaleh, says in his poem, which was sung by the real professional musician Abu Bakr Salem, may God have mercy on him, this eloquent verse in the gentle Sana’ani dialect:

And vulgarity in beauty is what makes it desirable

And the eye, were it not for the eyelashes, its beauty is scratched! Here, the permanence of creativity and its quality, and the survival of the passion for/and the potentials of spontaneous beauty, is in danger.

Yes, it is not possible to prevent and respond to these torrential floods that break the delicate branches on their way, but it is possible, and even necessary, to take a remote place, and meditate on how to protect our souls and creativity, and our ability to savor this creativity, in the midst of this noise and hustle that is harmful to the soul. how to do that?

I don’t know… But it must be, otherwise we will lose what makes us vibrate for every beautiful meaning.
