Faculty of Medicine praises education and research at the IX International Scientific Congress

The University of Zulia (LUZ) installed this monday IX International Scientific Congress of the Faculty of Medicine at the Tibisay Hotel del Lago, a “magnificent student event” that its eponym is Dr. Orlando Castejón Sandoval.

The person in charge of the installation was Judith Aular, rector of LUZ, who before a hundred participants affirmed that the holding of the congress “is worthy of admiration” because it takes place in “adverse times” for the alma mater of Zulia.

“It is an example that the University of Zulia goes ahead extolling its motto: ‘After the clouds the sun,’ added the rector, while thanking Castejón Sandoval for “being present at all the meetings, contributing all his wisdom so that this scientific congress exalts science and education”.

Aular invited the community and university students to participate in this “great meeting of research, achievements and satisfaction”.

For his part, the Dr. Orlando Castejon Sandoval, founder of the Biological Research Institute of the Faculty of Medicine and rector of the Corporative University of Health, Dr. Humberto Fernández Moran, told Final version that the congress “It is the opportune moment to make the knowledge that we are imparting through medical research at the University of Zulia reach Venezuelan society.”

The honorary doctor of LUZ expressed his pride in celebrating this ninth congress, “in a country in socioeconomic and cultural crisis.”

“For me, being the eponymous godfather of this congress is really a great honor, because that way we can show society how useful research is to improve Venezuelan health,” he added.

Castejon Sandoval emphasized that “The study in medicine is permanent, not only when studying medicine, but when starting to practice”.

“You have to deepen your knowledge. The doctor must always be a scholar to really give the pathogenesis of diseases and to be able to keep up with the new advances in science and technology in the biomedical area. It is regarding study, work and research”, he referred.

When asked why continue betting on health and medical research in Venezuela, the doctor considered that “We are a developing country and one way to do it is to improve the health system, otherwise we would be indifferent to human suffering.”

“It must be a State policy and persevering work to be serving this sector that contributes to having qualified human beings for the development of the country,” Castejón Sandoval said.

During the installation he was awarded an honorary doctorate to the graduate Ana Moreno, as well as the doctors Climaco Cano, Dianela Parra, Elena Ryder and Rafael Martínez. LUZ also delivered the order of merit of the Faculty of Medicine “Dr. Marco Tulio Torres to Dr. Slavia Ryder.

In this way, the event will be held from March 28 to April 1, It is the first post-pandemic congress that has an international character and that wants to exalt not only the fundamental values ​​of the Faculty, but also the culture and recognition of medical personalities.

During the congress, which carries the slogan “Learning beyond the pandemic”, The II Faculty of Medicine expo, the II scientific conference of the School of Bioanalysis, the IX conference of the School of Nutrition and Dietetics, the I conference of the School of Nursing, the anniversary of the Biological Research Institute and the V student conference will be held.

Obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, traumatology, plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine, bariatric surgery, cardiology, neurology, dentistry, ophthalmology, HIV and epimedology, are some of the branches that will be discussed at the scientific meeting. The congress will also handle indigenous medicine and culture.

The keynote and central conferences will be given by Dr. Orlando Castejón Sandoval, (“Our contribution to basic and clinical neurosciences”), Robert Fields, director of interculturality of the National Open University of Mexico and another international guest who will make a “Workshop on the update of Huntington’s disease chorea”.

About the II Faculty of Medicine expo, the obstetrician-gynecologist Alvaro Perez Rumbos, president of the organizing committee, explained that there are 30 stands of employee and student enterprises and 28 stands of commercial houses, private companies or laboratories.

“Today, medical students not only dedicate themselves to their careers, they also have to go to work, but many do it from home because the schedule of the Faculty does not allow it.
