A fire that occurred on the 12th of last month halted the operation of Hankook Tire’s Daejeon plant, and its subcontractors started reducing manpower.

According to News 1, Hankook Tire, and labor unions on the 8th, suppliers affiliated with the Daejeon Plant have been conducting the recommended resignation process for about 260 workers since the 7th. This figure corresponds to about 30% of all workers belonging to subcontractors.

Specifically, about 120 employees of two companies whose contracts were scheduled to be terminated with Hankook Tire and about 140 employees of five companies whose contract terms were changed due to plant shutdowns were notified of recommended resignation.

Some companies have decided to pay up to three months’ wages in the name of consolation money to those subject to recommended resignation under the condition that they resign on the 16th.

Regarding this, a Hankook Tire official said, “It is regrettable that contracts with some partners are canceled or changed in a situation where the factory is not running, but it is unavoidable.” .

In response, the Hankook Tire union protested, saying that it was only leaving the fire damage to the workers. A union official said, “Companies have notified the workers of the recommended resignation overnight without discussing it with the workers.” Raised.

Meanwhile, at 10:09 pm on the 12th of last month, a fire broke out at Hankook Tire’s Daejeon Plant in Moksang-dong, Daedeok-gu, Daejeon and was extinguished in 58 hours. The fire destroyed most of the Daejeon Plant 2 and the third logistics warehouse next to it, and burned about 210,000 stored tires.

Hankook Tire suspended all production operations at its Daejeon plant the day after the fire broke out. Most of the workers, except for a few, are on indefinite leave.
