According to her, vitiligo cannot be diagnosed before birth, as it only appears after birth. One of the most popular theories suggests that vitiligo is caused by a malfunction in the immune system, which leads to immune cells attacking the skin cells that produce melanin.

“Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease,” she says. “This means that the immune system, instead of fighting viruses and bacteria, attacks healthy cells and tissues in the body, so vitiligo can be linked to other autoimmune diseases, such as hyperthyroidism.”

According to her, some studies have shown that vitiligo can be hereditary, as some genes related to the immune system can affect its development.

“Injuries and stress can be a trigger for vitiligo, but they cannot be the primary cause,” she says. “Some studies suggest that exposure to certain chemicals or prolonged exposure to sunlight may be linked to the development of vitiligo. In general, these may be risk factors. The causes of vitiligo are not yet clear.”

The doctor points out that a person can get vitiligo at any age. Complete recovery from vitiligo is a subject of ongoing research by the scientific community in all countries of the world. But currently, it is only possible to prevent the development of the disease and camouflage the spots.

In general, vitiligo is not a serious disease at all, but its appearance in some areas of the body distorts a person’s appearance, affecting his psychological state and quality of life, causing depression and other things.
