Dr. Jamal Shaaban, former dean of the National Heart Institute, said that there are some factors that may make a person more susceptible to coronary artery disease, including smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, or having a strong family history of heart disease.

Shaaban added that patients who suffer from gout or high uric acid are more likely to suffer from a problem in the heart and blood vessels, such as myocardial infarction or stroke.

Shaaban continued, that patients who also suffer from immune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus erythematosus, are more likely to develop early coronary artery disease, in addition to Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, and patients with psoriasis are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases by up to 50%.

The former dean of the National Heart Institute pointed out that problems that may occur to women during pregnancy and childbirth, such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, low birth weight, premature delivery or early menopause, make them more susceptible to coronary artery disease.

Shaaban explained that migraines in women are linked to heart attacks, as shocks carry the risk of negative repercussions on the heart and blood vessels in young and middle-aged people who have a history of myocardial infarction.

Shaaban emphasized that contributing factors are also related to lifestyle, such as long working hours, which may make a person more susceptible to coronary artery disease, and not eating breakfast is also associated with an increased death rate from cardiovascular diseases and all causes.

How prevent heart attacks?

The former dean of the National Heart Institute gave some tips for preventing heart attacks, including the following:

1- Eat healthy food rich in vegetables and fruits.

2- Do not overeat starches, sugars, animal and hydrogenated fats, in addition to avoiding fried foods and fast food as much as possible.

3- Drink more water.

4-Avoid weight gain and obesity.

5- Regular exercise.

6- Get enough sleep.

7- Stay away from smoking.

8- Periodic and regular follow-up to the specialist doctor in the event of any of the risk factors of diabetes or pressure and cholesterol.

9- Avoid psychological and nervous stress as much as possible.
