Deploring the firm stance of the Minister of Water and Forests, General Maurice Ntossui Allogo, who categorically refuses to respond favourably to their demands, the president of the National Union of Water and Forestry Professionals (SYNAPEF), Serge Roland Pambou, preferred to resign as head of the union.

“The president of SYNAPEF spoke out, indicating his vision when he arrived at the head of the Union. After so much confrontation, he wanted to enter into a process of appeasement and support for the supervision. He said he was very touched by the Minister’s reaction and believes he failed in his mission. Water and forestry agents are demanding payment of their performance bonus from 4th quarter 2023, from 1is et 2e quarter 2024, without deducting the 40%, as indicated in decree 43, an old document which would not comply with the law, much criticized by the agents.

On August 2, SYNAPEF filed a strike notice. During negotiations with the supervisory authority, the Minister Ntossui Appeal, a, notes the minutes, made it clear to the unionists that their demands were unacceptable before he slammed the door.

The Minister’s non-conciliatory stance prompted SYNAPEF to announce an unlimited general strike on August 19.

According to the minutes of the AGM, “the Minister claims not to be concerned about the agents’ strike and that even if there is a new Minister, we will have no solution.”
