If public buildings are mainly targeted, businesses are not spared from the wave of riots that have raged since the death of a teenager on Tuesday. Videos of looting scenes in shops and shopping centers have multiplied on social networks, but a first quantified assessment has just been provided by Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy and Finance, this Saturday. And faced with the extent of the damage, he took the opportunity to send a message to insurers and banks.

More than 700 businesses in France have been victims of attacks and damage since the start of urban violence on Tuesday evening, Bruno Le Maire has thus quantified as reported by Archyde.com. At a press conference, he said the damage affected “all the territory, all the brands and all the shops”.

The Minister specified that 200 retail outlets, 250 tobacconists and 250 bank branches had been attacked, looted and for some completely burned. In fact, the toll is even heavier because the rioters also attacked many fashion and sporting goods stores, as well as fast food chains.

Simplicity for compensation

Bruno Le Maire has so far refused to quantify the damage, believing that it is too early for that. But, as AFP indicates, he has already asked insurers to extend reporting deadlines, reduce deductibles and quickly compensate professionals who are victims of the riots. He expressed himself thus: “We have asked insurers to be as simple as possible in handling procedures”of “reduce deductibles as much as possible” et “Compensation must arrive as soon as possible”. He is pointing out that “90 to 95% of traders are covered by claims and damage insurance”.

This call for solidarity was also made on the side of the banks, to which the minister asked “the greatest understanding in terms of processing deadlines” traders and entrepreneurs affected by degradation and looting.

Bruno Le Maire has finally invited traders “affected by acts of vandalism” to be declared ” as soon as possible “ claims to their insurance and expressed support for contractors and employees ” shocked “ to see their workplaces ransacked.

Between all these requests, the public authorities also intend to provide support with crisis units in each department in order to “to provide quick and strong responses”according to Bruno Le Maire, who adds that a deferral of payment of social and tax charges for companies in difficulty will also be possible.

In addition, the possibility of extending sales for one week for affected businesses is being studied.
