made founderFacebook“، Mark Zuckerberg, billions of dollars on virtual reality, as the next source for the growth of his empire that has become its name.deadSince last October, his strategy has faltered following warnings that virtual worlds are riddled with abuse.

According to the newspaper, “The Guardian”, Zuckerberg seeks to impose a mandatory distance between digital avatars of people (avatars) in virtual worlds.

It comes after warnings that Zuckerberg’s plans will lead to a new wave of online harassment. In December, a user of Horizon World, a Facebook-owned virtual app, complained of online contact and called for a protective bubble around the avatar. “Sexual harassment is no joke on the regular internet, but being in virtual reality makes it worse,” the user said.

And Facebook announced, Friday, that it is introducing personal limits on two VR applications: Horizon Worlds, where people can meet fellow virtual reality users and design their own world. The company said the distance between people would be four feet in virtual reality.

She added that the personal border “prevents anyone from invading the personal space of your avatar. If someone tries to enter your personal border, the system will stop their forward movement when they reach the limit.”

Meta has rolled out the 4-foot limit as a default, and will consider other changes such as allowing people to set their own limits.

According to her, this “will help establish behavioral standards, which is important for a relatively new medium such as virtual reality”.

For its part, the UK’s data watchdog also said it was seeking clarification from Facebook over the controls on the company’s popular Oculus Quest 2 VR headset, as activists have warned that it may violate the children’s safety code online.

The Information Commissioner’s Office said it will speak to Facebook, following research by the Center for Combating Digital Hate, about multiple instances of abuse on the VRChat platform that allows users to interact with others with avatars and 3D worlds created by users.

It is noteworthy that Zuckerberg renamed his company from “Facebook” to “Meta” last year, indicating that the future of his business lies in “Metaverse”, a concept in which the physical and digital worlds unite through virtual and augmented reality.
