Despite the difficulties which Mark Zuckerberg’s company has had to deal with for several weeks, Facebook is continuing to develop and deploy new features, including new “social audio experiences”.

In Junefollowing seeing the dazzling success of Clubhouse – an audio-centric social network that allows public figures to organize voice forums and chat with other figures, as well as reply to ordinary people – Facebook has introduced several features offering a similar experience. Until now, these were only available in the United States, but following several months of testing, Facebook is ready to offer them to the whole world, still convinced of the future success of its “social audio experiences”. .

Some of Facebook’s new audio features include:

  • Live audio rooms for public figures and creators : All Facebook verified users will be able to launch Live Audio Rooms from an iOS device.
  • Live audio rooms for groups : the function is not reserved only for personalities. Facebook groups will also be able to launch audio chats with their members, in order to “reinforce the engagement of their community”.

Live audio administrators can decide whether they are public or private, as well as who can join voice chats and exclude certain members. Facebook also claims to have implemented moderation tools to prevent harmful content from being shared in Live Audio.

For the moment, launching a Live audio can only be done from an iOS device, but Facebook is working to make the functionality available from Android, as well as on computer. Eventually, it will be possible to both start a chat and join one from these devices. Note also that the new features are being deployed, they might take several days to appear to all users.

Facebook bets on audio

“Over time, we plan to expand this availability: our goal is to eventually allow all public figures, groups, as well as creators and other partners, to create a live audio room. Our audio journey has only just begun,” Facebook said in its statement.

Mark Zuckerberg’s company strongly believes in audio – popularized during the health crisis and confinements – which is why it is also deploying the Soundbites function in the United States. The latter allows you to record short audio messages – a joke, an anecdote – and share them on the social network. We can imagine that the function will be available from us in the coming months.
