Facebook has introduced a feature called Vanish Mode

Facebook this month introduced a feature in its messaging app WhatsApp that will automatically make new messages disappear following 7 days, called Disappearing Messages.

Now Facebook has introduced a similar feature for Messenger as well.

This feature, called Vanish Mode, differs from WhatsApp in that messages will disappear once they have been viewed and the chat window is closed.

According to Facebook, the purpose of this feature is to keep in touch with close friends and family without worrying that those conversations will last for years.

The company said the feature is best for memes, gifs, stickers and reactions, which you don’t want to see in your chat history.

The feature has to be turned on by the user themselves, which requires swiping up a chat thread and Vanish Mode will start working.

Re-swiping will return to normal chat, however this feature will only work if both people involved in the chat have it activated.

Several features have been added for privacy during this mode such as the user will be notified when a screenshot is taken in the chat.

Earlier in September, Facebook introduced the option to link Instagram Direct Messages to Messenger.

As mentioned above, WhatsApp also introduced this feature called Disappearing Messages, with the main difference being that the messages will disappear following 7 days.

This new feature will gradually roll out to all users in Messenger and Instagram.

According to the company, it is currently being offered on Messenger in the US and a few other countries and will soon be offered in the European Union.

Instagram already has it available in several countries, but will roll out to US users in the coming weeks.
