‘Face should be covered except eyes’; Taliban ban women from public places

Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has expressed shock at the Taliban’s crackdown on women and girls in Afghanistan. Malala Yousafzai has accused the Taliban of trying to remove women and girls from public places. The Taliban’s latest order stipulates that women and girls must wear the burqa when they go out.

“The Taliban are trying to wipe out women and girls from public places in Afghanistan. Efforts are being made to exclude girls from school and women from the workplace. Women were forbidden to travel if the men in the family were not present. They were forced to cover their bodies and faces completely, “said Malala. Malala Yousafzai called on world leaders to take action against the Taliban’s inhumane treatment.

“We can not pretend that we have not seen the Taliban’s constant denial of justice to women in Afghanistan. They are violating all the promises they made. Women in Afghanistan need to take to the streets for even the most basic human rights protection. “Everyone, especially those from Muslim countries, must stand up for those women.”

The Taliban government in Afghanistan has ordered women to wear a head-to-toe burqa in public. The Taliban had implemented similar legislation during the previous regime from 1991 to 2001. Taliban Minister of Morals Khalid Hanafi has said he wants the sisters to live with dignity and security. He said it was better for women to stay at home if there was no significant work outside, adding that Islamic principles and Islamic ideology were more important than anything else.

Except for older women and children, it is recommended that the face be covered except for the eyes. An earlier order had banned schooling for girls above class six. Although most of the country’s universities opened earlier this year, girls’ education has been banned in many provinces. The Taliban regime has been accused of further alienating the international community by watering down on promises made when it came to power and re-imposing stricter laws.
