Skipper Fabrice Amedeo announced Thursday October 17 the arrival of FDJ (Française des Jeux) as a partner for the Vendée Globe 2024. This support reinforces his ambitious project which combines sporting challenge and commitment to preserving the oceans.

On November 10, Fabrice Amedeo will start the legendary Vendée Globe, a solo round-the-world race, non-stop and without assistance, from Les Sables d’Olonne. Its “Ocean Calling” project aims to carry out a unique oceanographic campaign. On board his Imoca Nexans-Wewise sailboat, Fabrice Amedeo will collect data on salinity, ocean surface temperature, the presence of microplastics and marine biodiversity using a battery of sophisticated sensors. This data will then be transmitted to its scientific partners to contribute to their research work on ocean protection.

On the occasion of the opening of the Vendée Globe village scheduled for this Saturday, October 19, Fabrice Amedeo will also inaugurate an educational Imoca, his second boat, ambassador of his “Ocean Calling” project. This sailboat will then travel on the roads of France to raise awareness among the general public about the preservation of the oceans and allow visits to a replica of the sailboat lined up for the competition.

The partnership with FDJ is part of a logic of resonance with the company’s commitments in favor of biodiversity. In continuation of the forest conservation and restoration actions that it has been carrying out for several years in France, the FDJ group has been committed, since 2023, to the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) as “ Great patron”, supporting several projects to preserve biodiversity. In partnership with the OFB and based on the Mission Heritage model, FDJ also launched the Mission Nature game offer, which made it possible to finance twenty-one projects to the tune of 7 million euros in 2023, while raising awareness its more than 27 million players in the environmental cause. In 2025, Mission Nature will be oriented towards causes and projects linked to the preservation of the oceans. The FDJ logo will also be present on the hull, the mast of its Imoca Nexans-Wewise, as well as in the cockpit and cabin.

Fabrice Amedeo: “I am very happy to take FDJ on board my Vendée Globe. I am leaving for a great adventure around the world and I intend to make all the group’s employees dream and share my journey with them daily, but I am also leaving with the ambition of an unprecedented oceanographic measurement campaign in the southern seas and with a scientific community behind me that is counting on me more than ever to complete the loop. A few months before 2025, the year of the sea, when I have more ambition than ever to develop my oceanographic project and my project to raise public awareness of the preservation of the oceans, it is great to count on the support of FDJ who joins my family of partners. »
