The BYD Factory doubles employment target in Camaçari to 20 thousand jobs; half of the hiring will happen in 2025
On a technical visit to the works of the BYD factory in Camaçari (BA), which will be BYD’s largest factory outside of China, this Monday, December 2, BYD, leader in Brazil and the world in sales of 100% vehicles electric and hybrid vehicles, presented to the public present, made up of authorities, journalists and guests, its new flex engine for super hybrid models, which will be able to combine electric battery technology with the efficiency of ethanol. On that occasion, BYD also announced the hiring of 10,000 workers for the factory, between January and August 2025, reinforcing its commitment to the country and the development of the automotive market. This movement is in line with the local market’s growing interest in more sustainable solutions and innovative technologies in the sector. In total, the complex is now expected to generate a total of 20,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Starting in January, the BYD factory will announce the details of a hiring program that promises to move professionals from Bahia and other states. The schedule foresees the opening of 2 thousand vacancies in January, 3 thousand in May and 5 thousand in August. The new employees will be integrated into various areas of the new factory, reinforcing the company’s commitment to job creation and regional economic development.
“With the hiring of 10 thousand workers, we are not only boosting the local economy, but also contributing to the development of a greener and more efficient value chain. BYD is transforming Camaçari into the Silicon Valley of Latin America. We are building a large R&D center, training local engineers and technicians to lead in innovation. And this is just the beginning”, says Stella Li, CEO Americas and Europe and global executive vice president at BYD.
Authorities were present at the event, and Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues emphasized the relevance of the project: “It is important for Bahia and Brazil to see progress in the installation of the BYD manufacturing complex in Camaçari. This project symbolizes the attraction of investments, generation of jobs and income, technological advancement and the sustainable development that we work daily to promote in our state. We are making this revolution happen in the present, with an eye toward the future, and investments will continue to expand our capacity to generate opportunities for Bahians and Bahians”, highlighted the governor of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues.
BYD also celebrated another important milestone in November, with record sales in the country, totaling 12,308 vehicles. “Our goal is to consolidate BYD among the three best-selling brands in the country over the next five years. We expect a continued increase in sales of hybrid and electric models, following market growth and the expansion of our infrastructure in Brazil. Today BYD already has more than 150 dealerships in all states”, highlights Alexandre Baldy, Senior Vice President of BYD in Brazil and head of commercial and marketing at BYD Auto.
Flex engine for super hybrids
BYD also announced the arrival of a milestone in mobility, with the development of a flex engine for its super hybrid models. This innovative technology combines ethanol, a green fuel widely produced in Brazil, with electricity, offering a sustainable solution adapted to the local market.
In addition to taking advantage of the potential of ethanol, BYD’s flex engine also improves the vehicle’s efficiency, reducing the difference in performance compared to gasoline and ensuring superior performance in various conditions. The project involved the collaboration of more than 100 Chinese and Brazilian engineers, reinforcing cooperation between the two countries and the development of technologies that combine innovation and sustainability.

First national plug-in flex hybrid SUV
The pioneering BYD Song Pro model will be one of the highlights of the national portfolio, equipped with a 1.5 flex engine that combines gasoline and ethanol. The technology, based on the DM-i platform, combines energy efficiency and superior performance, with competitive prices compared to traditional vehicles. The flex engine will be manufactured in Camaçari.

Another novelty is that the BYD Dolphin Mini, the best-selling 100% electric car in the country, will be the second model officially to be produced at the Camaçari factory. Versatile, technological and very economical, the model won over Brazilians.
Evolution of works at the BYD factory
Work on BYD’s new factory, which officially began less than nine months ago, is proceeding at a fast pace. Phase 1.1 of the project includes the warehouse for assembling cars in the SKD (Semi Knocked Down) system, the final inspection factory and the speed and obstacle test tracks. Completion of this phase is scheduled to begin after Carnival 2025.
Next, work will focus on phase 1.2, which includes the complete production of electric and hybrid vehicles and will have 28 new buildings and 2 yards. Full production of the models should begin in 2025. With these advances, BYD reinforces its commitment to local production and the expansion of the sustainable vehicle market in Brazil.
The new plant will have the capacity to produce up to 150,000 vehicles per year in the first phase of operation and 300,000 units in the second phase. The number of vacancies also increased from 10 to 20 thousand direct and indirect jobs.

Records in Brazil and around the world
Worldwide, BYD sold a total of 504,003 passenger vehicles in November alone, an increase of 67.2% compared to the same number last year. Total sales in 2024 already reach more than 3.7 million units.
In Brazil, November was also a historic month with the success of Black Friday. 12,308 units were sold at dealerships across the country. The number of registrations was the highest ever recorded and reached a record of 8,037. As a result, in the 11 months of this year, the total number of cars sold by BYD exceeded the mark of 66 thousand vehicles, an increase of 272% compared to last year.
In addition to being in first place among the brands that sell the most hybrid models, BYD dominates the 100% electric market with more than 7 cars from the brand for every 10 sold in Brazil. In November, greentech reached an unprecedented sixth position in retail sales among all automakers, and, considering total sales in the month, including direct channels, it rose to ninth position in the national ranking.
