Fabio Silva talks about his reaction after Stroeykens’ goal: “I know it’s not well seen”

Fabio Silva found the net once morest Mechelen, but first came up once morest Gaëtan Coucke, which twice benefited Mario Stroeykens. The Portuguese then let out his frustration.

The reaction of Fabio Silva following the second goal of Mario Stroeykens has been talked regarding. The Portuguese did not really celebrate this goal, however important, complaining regarding his failure face-to-face with Gaëtan Coucke, the Mechelen goalkeeper. He then congratulated his teammate, including on the networks, but the damage was done. “I know it was not well perceived from the outside,” he concedes with a contrite smile at a press conference.

“I’m obviously frustrated, at that moment, that I didn’t finish my actions. Frustrated with myself. I bring these two goals thanks to my runs and because I take the defenders, but I wanted to score”, then recognizes Silva. “But here, I spoke regarding it with the staff and with Mario, everything is settled. This goal followingwards makes me feel good. When you are an attacker, you want to score. But I do the shopping, I stretch the defensive lines , I open spaces…even when I’m not scoring, my work is important”.

No pressure for Silva

Anderlecht was in any case able to breathe just as much as its attacker, thanks to this victory. “It was important to win because once morest West Ham we felt we had played well. So we wanted to stay on the same level in the league but add victory to it,” explained Silva. “If I thought back to my missed header once morest West Ham? No, it was just an amazing save from Areola. Two years ago I’m sure I wouldn’t have managed to get that header in between defenders like I do, so I appreciate my progress. I do what I love, in a team where I feel good. The pressure is for the Ukrainians fighting on the front, not for a footballer …”.
