Fabien Roussel unveils his 180 proposals, Emmanuel Macron maintains the vagueness on his candidacy… The political recap of the day

Le World keeps the synopsis of the campaign for the presidential election of 2022: a daily update, published every evening at 7 p.m., reviews the political events of the past day and discusses upcoming meetings.

  • Fabien Roussel unveils a program focused on work and purchasing power

He wants to be the candidate of “the France of happy days”. Fabien Roussel unveiled, Monday, January 24, from the headquarters of the French Communist Party, his 180 proposals two and a half months before the first round of the presidential election: minimum wage at 1,500 euros net, 500,000 more jobs in public services , student income from 850 euros, nationalization of EDF, tripling of wealth tax…

In his 124-page program book, “France on Happy Days”, a tribute to that of the National Council of Resistance, the communist candidate focused his proposals on work and purchasing power. “There are fed up with a France that promises austerity, savings”, launched Mr. Roussel during his press conference on Monday morning, wanting “to give hope to those who no longer believe in it”.

Concerning ecology, Fabien Roussel assumes a different line from La France insoumise and especially from Europe Ecologie-Les Verts. If he defends the free urban public transport and the reopening of small train lines, the communist candidate is aimed at motorists: free driving license before the age of 25, bonus for conversion to less polluting vehicles, but also reduction of the fuel prices by reducing VAT to 5.5%.

To achieve carbon neutrality by 2040-2050, it plans in its program a “strong growth in electricity production, by investing in renewable energies (…) and in nuclear electricity with the construction of at least six additional EPRs”. Since the withdrawal of Arnaud Montebourg, he is now the only left to defend the construction of power stations.

  • The photo: in the Creuse, Macron maintains the vagueness on his candidacy

Emmanuel Macron speaks with students from the agricultural high school in Ahun (Creuse), Monday, January 24.

Presidential candidacy, universities, agricultural income… Emmanuel Macron began a two-day trip to Creuse and Haute-Vienne on Monday with a visit to the agricultural high school in Ahun where he was questioned on many subjects. By approaching the head of state, in the high school barn where around forty cows are ruminating, Tom, an 18-year-old high school student, notably tried to get the scoop that many political journalists would like to get. “Are you standing for re-election? », he launched, mask on the nose. But as in these last interviews, Mr. Macron took care to temporize.

“I will continue to fight until the end. (…) We still have a lot of things to do. If everything had been settled, [mais] This is not the case. Afterwards, I will announce my decision in due time.”, declared the Head of State, who concluded by giving an appointment “to the next episode”.

  • The quote: Anne Hidalgo wants to believe in “humor” following the words of François Hollande

“François Hollande has a lot of humor, and I think he showed a lot of humor in front of these students”

She hopes it’s a joke, but he was serious. Once once more, François Hollande maintained doubt regarding a possible candidacy, Sunday January 23, in a program broadcast on France 3 devoted to a meeting with high school students.

“For the moment, I am not a candidate, you noticed”, notably replied Mr. Holland to one of the high school students, before adding: “And since it’s not going well [dans le pays et à gauche], it is true that we might say: Would one more application be helpful? I don’t know, I don’t think, moreover… I have the same ideas as before, I continue to defend them, and a former president can very well go back to politics and, it happened, be a candidate in the presidential election. » Asked regarding his possible candidacy, he replied: “I will, in any case, speak soon. »

These remarks sound like a new disavowal for the socialist candidate, Anne Hidalgo. Questioned Monday morning on RTL, the mayor of Paris remarked: “First of all, François Hollande, whom I see regularly, has a lot of humor and I think he showed a lot of humor in front of these 2from », she judged. And to continue: “I’m not here to comment on small sentences, even those of François Hollande. »

  • The number of the day: 467,000

A figure that should not leave candidates on the left indifferent, even those who do not want to be part of it. The organizers of the Popular Primary announced on Monday that 467,000 voters will take part in this citizen consultation which will take place from January 27 to 30.

With this figure higher than expected, the popular Primary, criticized by most of the main left-wing candidates, far exceeds the 22,000 PS activists of the socialist nomination, the 122,000 participants in the environmentalist primary in September and the nearly 140,000 members of the Les Républicains party congress at the beginning of December. “It is the biggest process of deciding between candidates in France, it cannot be ignored”, rejoiced with AFP Mathilde Imer, one of the organizers of the primary.

In this recap devoted to the news of the electoral campaign, we also evoke the past by returning each day to the highlights of the last presidential elections through an article by the World. Today, let’s go back ten years… January 24, 2012.

In The world, journalist Sylvia Zappi looks back on François Hollande’s big meeting at Le Bourget. It was on this occasion that the socialist candidate, who won the primary on the left a few weeks earlier once morest Martine Aubry, really launched his campaign. Before this meeting, socialist activists still had some doubts regarding him. “I would like to know what is behind the politician. It’s smooth, you can’t figure it out.”, wondered one of the 25,000 activists present in the room.

An hour and twenty-five minutes of speeches, applause and slogans later, the activists have regained their enthusiasm. “We have just seen a large number of the one we call soft balls ! », one of them exclaims. Another particularly liked the candidate’s tirades ” once morest the forces of money”. He had launched a tirade that had marked during this meeting: “My real adversary, he has no name, no face, no party, he will never present his candidacy, he will never be elected and yet he governs. This adversary is the world of finance. »

“He invited us to dream and we are going to do something in the next few years: we are going to change eras”, also hopes another activist. Without suspecting that, five years later, the “new world” would rather be embodied by a young adviser to François Hollande then unknown, a certain Emmanuel Macron.

From local to international. The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, continues his trip to Creuse and Haute-Vienne on Tuesday to discuss in particular the problems of rurality and health. He will then fly to Berlin where he will meet the new German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, at the end of the day. A joint press conference is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
