Since the success of Zaï zaï zaï zaï, Fabcaro has established himself as one of the big names in comic strip humor. Designer, screenwriter (but also musician), Fabrice Caro, was born in Montpellier in 1973 and lives in Bédarieux in the Hérault. The one who will be at the heart of comics news on October 26 with the release of a new album byAsterix, L’Iris Blanc (for which he wrote the screenplay), presents his new novel in preview at Bédarieux: Journal of a scenario.
“This morning, Jean Chabloz received me in his office, following we exchanged a few messages in which he said he was enthusiastic regarding my scenario. He concluded one of them with this Let’s meet upa passionate, almost torrid injunction…” thus begins the novel Journal of a scenario…

And then… “We are going to make a beautiful film!” Since the producer validated his script in this way, Boris has been in heaven. The magnificent love tragedy he titled The Silent Servitudes will see the light of day in the cinema, in black and white, as in his wildest dreams. And everything seems to smile decidedly on Boris when he meets Aurélie, a young film buff who is passionate regarding the project. Yet cinema, like love, has its vagaries and constraints. From auteur film to turnip, there is sometimes only one step!”
This is the fifth novel by Fabrice Caro and this simple pitch portends some tasty moments of absurdity and misunderstandings, allowing the author to developa delicious comic crescendo . As the author writes in this “Journal…” :
“The first words of a film are decisive, it is the door that invites the spectator to enter the work or leaves him outside – at least for a little while…”
Fabrice Caro opens a door and… the reader rushes in… Fabrice Caro succeeds in “opening the door” to the reader from the first sentences of this novel in the form (as the title indicates) of a day-to-day diary, with a narrator who we quickly feel is at great risk of letting himself be tossed between a producer who is not very clear, a cinephile lover who monopolizes him (This diary was not supposed to accommodate considerations outside my work. A sprain that is not quite one: following all, it is indeed my script that brought us together, her and me.)
and characters that escape him…In short, once you are hooked
Fabrice Caro just has to let his line slip away so that the reader no longer wants to escape the trap that is closing around him, like the pages of this diary closing around the adventures that await Boris…
Screenwriter of the 40th album of Asterix le GauloisAnd to get a little ahead of the news
a few questions to Fabcaro regarding the upcoming release (October 26) of Asterix’s next album (the 40th!) for which he has become the screenwriter:
ASTERIX ® OBELIX ® IDEFIX ®/ © 2023 LES EDITIONS ALBERT RENE What is the genesis of this 40th album of the adventures of Asterix?
I wanted an album rather centered on the village and its surroundings. I particularly like the Asterix albums where an external element enters the village and upsets its balance. And observe. the reaction of the villagers, with their legendary bad faith. And then it was an opportunity to tackle a contemporary social phenomenon…
Why this title?
The White Iris is the name of a new school of positive thought, coming from Rome which is beginning to spread in the big cities, from Rome to Lutèce. Caesar decides that this method can have a beneficial effect on the camps around the famous Gallic village. But the precepts of this school also exert an influence on the villagers who cross its path… The announcement board published in December gave you a foretaste of its effects!I was looking for a title in the spirit of Goscinny and Uderzo where the theme is often embodied in a physical object or a person (The cauldron ,The Diviner ,The Great Divide ,The Arverne Shield ,The serpe d’or
…). Here, the iris is the symbol of benevolence and fulfillment, or at least that’s what we hope…
Abraracourcix, the famous Gaulish chief, doesn’t look very happy… What’s going on in the village?
Yes, there we must admit that we knew him in better shape. This positive method is not without impact on our Gallic friends and does not only make people happy. This is the case of our leader who is going through a crisis…
