Max Verstappen (Red Bull) won the Dutch GP in front of a cheering crowd. The Dutchman won ahead of George Russell (Mercedes) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) following a lively race.
With this 10th success of the season, the 30th of his career in Formula 1, Verstappen took another step towards a second consecutive world title.
The question is no longer whether he will be world champion, but rather to determine when this will be the case mathematically. His lead over his first pursuers (Leclerc and Sergio Pérez / Red Bull) now amounts to … 109 points!
Unlucky Mercedes
If the final result of the race is not a surprise, it was not a walk in the park for the winner. The strategy of the Mercedes, starting on medium tires to aim for a single stop, might very well have been crowned with success.
But two incidents ruined the Silver Arrows’ chances, allowing their opponents to switch rubbers without wasting too much time. The VSC following a breakdown by Yuki Tsunoda (48th lap) and the safety car following the retirement of Valtteri Bottas (56th lap) have thus reshuffled the cards.
