F1 Austria: FIA takes public incidents, sexual assaults seriously

Formula 1 has settled in Austria for the weekend and it seems that not everything went as planned in the stands. Several members of the public reportedly reported different kinds of attacks, some of a racist, homophobic and sexual nature to security and race organizers. There is talk of attacks on young women supporters of Lewis Hamilton committed by members of the “Orange Army”, won over to the cause of Max Verstappen. The accusations are multiple and calls to come forward if other victims exist have been launched on social networks. It is also on the networks that several members of the “Orange Army” have already dissociated themselves from the alleged acts committed by other “supporters”.

The FIA released a brief statement this morning: “We have been made aware of fans experiencing completely unacceptable comments from others at the Austrian Grand Prix. We take this matter very seriously, we have raised it with the security team and we will speak with those who reported these incidents to us. This type of behavior is unacceptable and we do not tolerate it..”

Many people reacted on social networks by asking for actions rather than words.
